What is the Sacred Cenote?

A vacation in Cancun is the perfect opportunity to visit the numerous archeological sites in the area, many of which are from the Maya civilization. Many of the hotels will provide bus service, and most of the locations are a few hours from the comfort of your all-inclusive resort. One of the most famous and popular of these spots is Chichen Itza, a massive city which contains a mysterious water source called the Sacred Cenote. What is this, and why was it so important?

A cenote is a deep pit which usually forms as the result of limestone bedrock collapsing into the groundwater beneath it. They form an access point on the surface to underground bodies of water, and the water is usually clear and well-filtered due to it slowly filtering through the ground. The Sacred Cenote at Chichen Itza, also known as the Well of Sacrifice, is thought to be one of the most important parts of the ancient city; the name of the site actually translates to ‘At the mouth of the well of the Itza’.

The Maya believed that there were three ways to reach the underworld of the dead, and one of them was by passing through the bottom of the cenote. They also believed that the rain god Chaac lived there, and they often sacrificed humans and objects by throwing them into the well to please him. Dredges of the water have resulted in a huge number of artifacts, many of which (curiously) were perishable products like wood. These pieces were preserved by the water, where they normally would have rotted away over thousands of years.

Jewelry, weapons, jade objects, textiles, and shells have all been found in the Sacred Cenote. Archeologists realized that all of these items showed damage, representing a symbolic ‘death’ before sacrifice. Many human remains have also been found in the deep waters, from people of all different ages: young (assumed virginal) girls, prisoners of war, and strong warriors were all sacrificed. A majority of these findings were discovered in 1904 by Edward Herbert Thompson, who oversaw a great deal of the excavation of the site.

If you are visiting a hotel like Temptation Resort Spa Cancun, be sure to take some time to visit some of the amazing Maya archeological sites like Chichen Itza, Xcaret, and Uxmal. It’s sure to be a jump into history that you won’t soon forget.

What is a Quesadilla?

One of the appealing aspects of a resort vacation in beautiful Cancun Mexico is the chance to eat the delicious and varied local cuisine. Mexican-type food is very popular throughout the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, but there’s just something about having a taco, burrito, or quesadilla in its land of origin that makes it seem extra delicious.

Quesadillas are an amazing versatile dish with a wide range of ingredients, but it is always made up of a flour or corn tortilla which is filled with a savory mix of cheese and other ingredients, grilled and folded into a half circle shape. It originated in Mexico during colonial times while cheese-making did not arrive in the area until the Europeans brought the knowledge to the locals. The word ‘quesadilla’ is derived from the Spanish word for cheese, ‘queso’.

The ingredients for quesadillas vary by region. Mexico and the rest of Central and South America tend to prefer corn tortillas, whereas flour tortillas are favored in northern Mexico and throughout the United States. Authentic Mexican quesadillas are made with tortillas cooked on a smooth griddle called a comal; the tortilla is warmed and kept soft, and then the fillings are added and the tortilla folded over. The typical quesadilla in Mexico are filled with Oaxaca cheese, which is stringy and melts easily. While plain cheese quesadillas are quite popular, other fillings include cooked vegetables, chorizo sausage, pumpkin flowers, mushrooms, corn, and meats like chicken, pork, or beef. In some regions, quesadillas are also topped with avocado, tomatoes, and salsas, in addition to the fillings they already have.

Quesadillas can be made using ingredients sandwiched between two flour tortillas, making twice the amount of the dish. They are often sliced into wedges to serve, and this method is very popular in American restaurants. The United States version of the quesadilla often uses Monterey Jack or cheddar cheeses, which are produced in a larger quantity locally. Fillings can be anything from goat cheese, zucchini, spinach, or tofu. The only limit, it seems, is one’s imagination.

Mexican resorts often have a restaurant specifically meant to serve local cuisine. In the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa, you can get your quesadilla fix at their El Patio dining lounge.

Choose a research paper topic that interests you

Write a research paper requires advance planning and thoughtful execution throughout, but most of all requires a lot of hard work to come out right. Before you begin, save much time and energy to carefully select topics.

A.      Choose a research paper topic that interests you. This is probably the most important thing you can do when choosing a research topic. Your teacher may limit your options, but if you are given the opportunity to influence the selection of topics you think should pick a topic about which you want to learn more. They may be a topic that you write with passion the most.

B.       Start broad and narrow gain: If you start with a topic that is too narrow, you may not be able to find research that is useful or interesting. You can minimize the incidence of the latter with extensive research first, and then narrow your focus as you explore the available research.

C.       Do not be afraid to revise your topic: Make sure that your paper follows the logic of a continuous line. You must declare this at the beginning of the trip line and follow it all. If at the end of the paper, you deviate from your preview or a thesis statement in the introduction, you should revise your introduction to your paper include a change has been taken.
I hope that the ideas flow easily and you are an interesting argument.
