Santo Domingo – The capital of the Dominican Republic

The capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. It is the largest city in the Dominican Republic and one with the largest population in the Caribbean. The city has a number of very important buildings like the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor, the oldest cathedral in America and the Alcazar de Colon, the oldest castle in America. The Monasterio San Francisco is the first monastery in America and the Fortaleza Ozama, the oldest fort in America. This region has a tropical wet climate, which means those less than normal dry seasons, tropical climate.

The entire economy of the Dominican Republic the country is centered on this city. The richest people live closer to the center of the city, while people living on low incomes in the area. A very important detail about Santo Domingo is all museums and parks in the city. Rafael Ma. Moscoso National Botanical Garden is in the capital is a beautiful botanical garden with a fairly large number of plants. The Museo de las Casas Reales is a stunning monument to the colonial period.

The capital of the Dominican Republic has two airports, bringing the millions of passengers each year. The main airport of the capital’s international airport is Las Americas. The second airport is the international airport of La Isabela and on domestic flights. Santo Domingo is a city with a rich culture and great history.
